Noise management has become a key issue in motorsport. Whether during drift track days or a driving course, respecting the noise limits imposed by racetracks is now essential to be able to drive with peace of mind. To help drivers plan ahead, there is a simple solution accessible to everyone: the dB Meter app, available on the App Store and Google Play (Decibel X).
Each racetrack imposes its own noise constraints. At Torque Drift School, some tracks require particular vigilance, notably:
Vaison Piste: limit set at 88 dB
Other racetracks: limit set at 95 dB
A vehicle that is too noisy can lead to being refused access to the track or exclusion during the day. Anticipating your car’s noise level allows you to avoid unpleasant surprises, adapt your setup (exhaust, baffle, silencer), and prepare for your visit in the best possible conditions.
dB Meter turns your smartphone into a sound level meter. Thanks to the built-in microphone, the app provides an estimate of the noise level in decibels (dB) in just a few seconds.

Please note: a mobile app does not replace a certified sound level meter. The values obtained serve primarily as an indicative guide, ideal for anticipating and comparing different configurations of your vehicle.
To get a measurement as consistent as possible with racetrack usage, it is recommended to follow a simple method:
Place the smartphone about 1 meter behind the exhaust
Offset it by about 20 cm to the side, to avoid direct gas flow
Take the measurement with the engine warm
Steady the engine speed for a few seconds
For Vaison Piste: 6000 rpm; if no rev counter, at full throttle.
For other racetracks: At 3/4 of the engine speed.
This method provides an indicative value, close to the control conditions used on track. The results should remain a guide, the goal being to anticipate and adapt the vehicle’s configuration before your arrival.
Using an app like dB Meter is part of a responsible approach, both for respecting the racetracks and for the sustainability of our activity. By anticipating noise constraints, everyone contributes to preserving access to the tracks and ensuring drift track days run smoothly.
